Entertainment on a dime

When you have no money, you think you can have no fun! But don't fret, my friend. There are many free, fun things you can do at no expense! The key to free entertainment is to find it! Summer is an especially good time to find free things to do, but you can find things year around. Let's talk about summer fun first though. The kids are out of school, mom is going crazy being all cooped up and everyone needs OUT.

Summer activities:

Regal Cinemas offers free kids movies Tuesdays and Wednesdays during summer. Yup, free! Of course, they are movies that are not new releases, but who cares? Everyone loves to sit in the theater and watch a movie. Babies, toddlers, elementary, it doesn't matter. It gets you out of the house and into some air conditioning. Go enjoy! Free Summer Movies

There's free bowling in summer too. Visit: Kids Bowl Free
The free bowling isn't available everywhere, but if it's near you, take advantage of it!

Of course there's always the park and pool and beach. Pack a lunch, bring a blanket and have yourself a great day! (Don't forget the free sunscreen!)

Target sponsors days at museums for free. Target Free Museums

If you are a Bank of America customer, you can get into Discovery Science Center FREE the first Saturday of every month, just by showing your card. Bank of America Free Museums

Another great way to have fun is to join different reading programs. You sucker your kids into reading more and get to have fun at the same time! Check out your local library for their summer reading programs. Libraries also offer great story-times too! Barnes and Noble also offers a summer reading program. Read 8 books, choose a book of their list, FREE. A trip to Barnes and Noble is fun in itself. My kids had a blast trying to read their 8 books so they could go get their free one. Barnes & Noble Summer Reading

Borders bookstore also has a similar program. For their program your child must read ten books to earn a free one. Borders Summer Reading

Let's not forget church. There's no better place for free activities! Have kids join Vacation Bible School (VBS), attend AWANAS, go to youth group, etc. In summer many churches offer additional family activities and concerts...guess what? All free!

I will say it one last time. You must look for these free activities. The internet is a valuable resource. You can access the internet free at the library if you don't have it at home. If you are going to the fair for example, first check out the fairs website. I did this and found a day where they offered free admission and a free ride ticket for 5 clothing items donated. BINGO! I got together 25 of the babies clothes that she's outgrown and my whole family, including my brother, all got into the fair for free. We parked in the free area and took the shuttle. You can do it! But even if you look nothing else up, these free things I listed will keep you busy all summer long!

Year Round Activities:

MOPS is a Christian based mom's group. Meetings meet about twice a month and childcare is provided. Moms listen to speakers and do crafts while the kids have their own fun. MOPS does have a small yearly fee, but offer scholarships as well for those in need.

Story-time at the library is perfect for moms and little ones. Check out your local libraries website, or for the main OC public library page, visit here.

If you want to get in on great products and host fun parties to share them, visit House Party.
